Tapering valproic acid

I have been taking 100mg valproic acid for 14 years without relapsing for bi polar disorder . I wanted to reduce it in discussion with my psychiatrist to either 750mg or 500mg but tablets only come in 250mg form . Are they any suggestions how I could do this?

Hey Jef, welcome. Fourteen years on valproate is a long stretch and it's good you're working with your psychiatrist on this rather than going it alone. The 250mg tablet size does make things tricky, but there are ways people handle it, like splitting tablets or talking to your pharmacist about liquid options or compounding.
