I’m pretty lost. I was told by my doctor to taper my 10mg of nortriptyline that I had Been taking for 7 weeks on and off. Switching between amatriptyline. I was told to split capsules but I feared by day 6 my dosing wasn’t corrects so I reinstated 10mg capsules on day 7 to get back to my 10mg to do a proper taper. I’m on day 3 of my 10mg redose and I’m so messed up. Anxious as hell I can feel my skin crawling, I feel like I’m high out of my mind I can’t deal with this. I’m also on 45 mg of mirtazapine and I feel like I’m losing my mind. When I was on 10mg of nort I also felt like this often. I just want off this drug I don’t think I’m strong enough for this. Any help would be so great as most my doctors don’t know what they’re talking about. I can’t stand the side affects anymore. Anyone please help. I have the liquid to taper but I just want to be done. I’m so lost and scared

Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 16.64 mg
Trazodone - 50 mg
Synthroid - 25 mcg

I was on amatriptyline for 4 days or so before I got bad side affects I switched to nortriptyline and then after two weeks was put back on amatriptyline then now on nortriptyline for the past 4 weeks or so. Side affects were horrible still are. I’ve been on 45mg of mirtazapine for the past 6 weeks. My doctors instructions were to do a one day one day off with the nortriptyline and I felt that was terrible idea. So the only option I had was to split capsules. I did that for 6 days and my pharmacist told me that’s that’s also a bad idea.. so now I’m stuck and was told to reinstate the 10mg dose I was on, I already felt like crap on that dose too, so I’m on day 3 of my 10mg reinstatement. 2 of the 3 was a capsule 1 was the liquid formation

Why were you put on these drugs to begin with? What side effects did you have? Why were you put back on Amitriptyline if it was giving you bad side effects? Yes, you were right in thinking that skipping days is not recommended. It's best to keep doses consistent each day and then slowly taper. I don't know why doctors give this bad advice. When you split your capsules, how much of a reduction did you do? I'm really sorry for the spot you're in. Frequent drug switches and dose changes can sensitize the nervous system. Hopefully some other members can provide some input as to what the best course of action is. It's hard when a drug is causing bad side effects. You want off as quickly as possible but if you taper too fast it can cause other issues.

I used 10mg for nerve pain.. that’s it. Was on mirtazapine for years before I got off. Anxiety was terrible so I went back on it. I was fine for years with mirtazapine. So I think all the culprit is the nortriptyline. Mixing badly with my mirtazapine. Having bad virtigo, blurred vision, thoughts of self harm, headaches and very shaky and jittery. I can hardly drive or live my life at this point. And those symptoms stayed constant through the whole 4 of 7 weeks when I got back onto nortriptyline. And the 2 weeks I was on it. I just want my life back and I’m so scared.

I already went to the ER after starting the 10mg of nort. And they ruled out serotonin syndrome
