Paxil taper

Hi I’m new here. I’ve been on Paxil for 23 years and I’ve tried to taper several times and I always end up having to go back to my 40mg dose. Has anyone successfully tapered off Paxil after several years on it? I get anxiety just thinking about coming off of it but I don’t feel that it works for me anymore.

Hi @Linds, welcome! If you do a slow Hyperbolic taper you should be able to successfully get off. You've been on it a very long time, and it can take a long time for the brain to adjust. If you taper slowly and really listen to your body, holding where necessary, then you can definitely do it. Knowledge is power. Have a look around the site; there's lot of helpful information. Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 17.92 mg
Trazodone - 50 mg
Levothyroxine - 25 mcg

I’m reinstating Paxil after trying a taper and switch to Lexapro. Only off 6 weeks.

Paxil — 20 mg — 20 years. Went off now back on — holding
Trazadone 37.5 mg
Buspar 5 mg two times a day

Hello Linda I have been on Paxil for over 35 yrs and began my hyperbolic tapering 28 months . I am currently at 1.8 ml and will continue using the liquid to help with the taper. So far , I will say the waking up during the night seems to be my worst symptom. It may take me another 2 years to get to the end of, but I am determined to rid this out of my body. Good luck

When you say it no longer works for you what do you mean? I was on Paxil for 20 years and felt like it stopped working too. I tried a taper and switch to Lexapro but I tapered so quickly it was terrible. So I reinstated. Not great but better.
