Omega 3 recommended dose

June 5, 2026ยทยท
I have been taking omega 3 for 6 months before taper. But I just realized I have been taking less than the manufacturer recommended dose. I've been taking 1 pill instead of two ( Jamieson brand). It's been 15 months of my taper journey. I went from 80mg Lurasidone (Latuda) to now 18mg. Just 2 days ago I started taking the recommended dose 2 pills. I have also had a bad case of the flu but now I feel a bit weak. I'm wondering if it's the omega 3 or the flu or even if the flu is a withdrawal symptoms. I've now had two bouts of flu illness in 3 weeks. Granted my children have been sick on and off since March but still I've never had to call in sick due to flu like symptoms ever but I had to call in sick 2 times in 3 weeks. My other tapering attempts have been very uneventful. I'm able to work and everything has been so smooth so far. Is it a cold or withdrawal? Should I go back to taking one omega pill? I believe each pill is 1000mg omega 3. I welcome any and all opinions. Warm regards, Well Loved In Canada ๐Ÿ˜€

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about you and your family's bout of sicknesses. Withdrawal can also cause flu-like symptoms, so it's hard to pinpoint exactly what could the root cause of your symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms normally appear shortly after a dose reduction. I know that Fish Oil sometimes doesn't agree with people. Surviving Antidepressants had a thread about it if you'd like to take a look to see what other people have reported: https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/36-king-of-supplements-omega-3-fatty-acids-fish-oil/#comment-44 For people in withdrawal, more of a supplement isn't necessarily better, but everyone is different in how they react to things. Here is some information about flu-like symptoms in withdrawal: https://taper.community/thread/e8560e38-cda2-480b-a526-f1fe6fe33082

Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 17.92 mg
Trazodone - 50 mg
Levothyroxine - 25 mcg

So... if the previous tapering attempts were perfectly uneventful, I would say those should be mostly uneventful as well even more so that you seem to be following a strict schedule. About weakness: sometimes supplements do not agree with people as @Catina said. When they don't, the most common response is probably weakness / fatigue. The most common response to any illness or problem out there is weakness / fatigue, though. I would say you must keep in mind there might be yet another unknown cause, and you must keep in mind you can drop the omega 3 oil entirely at any time to ensure it's not that thing causing weakness. Is there a chance you got infected from your children? I never, almost never got the flu but when I got it, that was exactly when living with someone who had a flu. You can't make a diagnosis based on little info and little info points. When you do not have enough info points, and cannot prove a theory, you come up with an experiment and run it. So, in this case the "experiment" would be watch your body react to dropping to one pill of omega or even drop it altogether.
