Unfortunately a lot of GPs happily dispense medication without having a good understanding of their impact, be that short or long term. And they definitely have no clue about ceasing. Im not just talking about psychiatric medication but many drugs, including statins, GLP1, antihypertensives and antibiotics. Instead of helping patients with lifestyle, diet, social situation, self worth, financial or living situation, the easiest quick fix is to prescribe a drug. I worked as a medical secretary for surgeons and specialists for decades, including 8 years in oncology. The more I saw and learnt about the medical system, the more I began to turn away from it and look to alternative therapies. Im not suggesting you stop seeing your GP, but do your own research and take that knowledge to her and tell her what you want and need. If she is not willing to listen and learn, find another GP who is. Sorry but its a harsh reality I have had to comes to terms with. I stay away from mainstream doctors as much as possible and have developed an alternative support network.
I wish you well on your journey 🙏
