Looking for hope and recovery stories after short term psychiatric medication use
Hi everyone,
I’m from Australia and looking to connect with people who have experienced something similar.
In July 2026, I started experiencing panic attacks and anxiety. I was then prescribed several psychiatric medications over a short period, including fluoxetine, vortioxetine, olanzapine, quetiapine and benzodiazepines.
I only took each medication briefly and stopped everything by late August.
Since then, I’ve been struggling with significant insomnia, constant physical anxiety, intrusive and obsessive thoughts, depression, fatigue and various physical symptoms.
The insomnia and fear of not sleeping have been particularly difficult. More recently, I’ve also developed worries about my sexual function over 10 weeks after stopping the meds which I find wierd?
I’m now around 10 weeks off medication. My sleep has started showing some improvement, including a few consecutive good nights, but my anxiety and mood are still difficult.
Before all this, I was enjoying life with my partner and two young children, and I desperately want to get back to feeling like myself again.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who experienced similar symptoms after short-term medication use, particularly those who have improved or recovered.
Did your sleep improve before your anxiety and mood? What helped you most during recovery?
