I am 80 years old. More than 20 years ago I was prescribed 50mg Amitriptyline for Nocturia (long since resolved) My GP went on prescribing it as 'it was non addictive could be stopped any time' In early 2019 I suddenly was called by 'a pharmacist' telling me I MUST COME OFF IT- very dangerous! Then Covid stopped all communication with GPs. I, knowing nothing, tapered it myself down to 10mg over the next five years with only minor side effects till I got to 10mg this year. My GP gave me a plan + liquid but it was much too fast and I had dreadful side effects so after a week she put it back up to 10mg. It has ruined my nervous system and I really only feel well in the evenings now when the severe panic, which wakes me at 3am onwards, wears off. A query to Google asking about diet brought me to this site. There doesn't seem to be specialised help in NE England so I hope the community could help me with much needed support. I feel I know more than my GP and Pharmacist.
Amitriptyline — 10mg — more than 20 years — reinstated
Welcome @Lucybridget
Sorry to hear about how you ended up here, but you're not alone.
There's also a @Amitriptyline section where you can hopefully find some specific support to your medication.
