I’m currently taking Paxil 60 and Zyprexa 7.5. I want to taper off Zyprexa. My prover’s recommended reducing dose by 2.5 every 3-5 days. Has anyone successfully tapered off Zyprexa? If so, how did you do it? Does anyone have suggestions for sleep disturbances?

Paxil — 60 mg — Previously on for about 8 years. Tapered down to 10 mg and then went back up to 60 | Zyprexa — 7.5 — A month and a half — planning taper | without clinician

Hi @JMC, welcome! Glad to have you with us. I will tag our @Zyprexa members so they can respond. The taper plan your doctor wants to implement is entirely too fast. Most doctors don't understand neuroadaptation and the physical dependence that these drugs cause. We recommend a Hyperbolic taper of no more than 10% each month from the previous month's dose. The doses therefore get smaller and smaller the closer you get to zero. You can read more about this in the Resources section. Hi @JMC I’m currently tapering from 7.5mg by liquid suspension that I make on my own . Currently at 6.7mg. I would suggest you to follow atleast 10% of previous dose as reduction / hyperbolically. Your provider has no clue what he just recommended you to do unless you have been on the drug for few weeks only and in my opinion its recipe for failure. So please taper carefully. I currently follow a table going to 5mg by the end of November from 7.5mg. I don’t consider myself expert but I know a couple of things when it comes to this drug and faster taper is a big NO! Also to add I’m on Zyprexa for 8 years. I taper since 2024 from 30mg—-> goal is 0
