Clonazepam update having an awful WD day

August 21, 2026··
Hi, I've been tapering clonazepam for about 6 months, I have still a long road to go. I tapered 10% of my previous dose 6 days ago. Feeling horrible today. My base line of symptoms is already unestable but today symptoms spiked. Should I updosek to the former dose? Should I endured this hoping it will pass? I think it was spiked bc I made a mistake in my diet, by accident I ate noodles made with wheat (gluten). Also it could be a "normal" reaction to dose reduction? Trying to make sense and trying to lift up myself, encourage myself whilst on the worst Thank you for any advice or support.

That sounds rough, Azul. Spikes after a cut are common, and dietary slip ups like gluten can definitely stir things up too. Whether to updose or hold is a decision best made with your prescriber, so give them a call if you can. You've come this far, and bad days don't undo that progress. Hang in there :)

Thank you @Based Psychiatrist. I don't rely on prescriber's advice, they don't have idea on how to deprescribe, they not even know the Ashton Manual, I just see the doctor to refill the drug. I'm on my own in this. Thank you for you reply.

Hi @Azul, I'm sorry you're having an awful time right now. You may need to give yourself more time to stabilize. Have you ever had a bad reaction to gluten before? What symptoms are you dealing with? Maybe trying to reduce by 10% is too much for your nervous system to handle. You can always reduce by less next time. The Symptoms and Self-Care section has lots of helpful article about coping with withdrawal symptoms. We're here anytime you need to reach out. 🌸

Thank you @Catina. Second awful day but I notice that my NS is trying to manage it. Yesterday tinnitus was louder. Sound sensitivity and centralized tinnitus in my left ear. Today anxiety, tinnitus, extreme fatigue and lack of appetite. So far I've been very careful with gluten, I checked again the noodles box today and yes, it has two types of wheat (double dose of gluten) and I think it added more symptoms to the usual symptomatic dose reduction. Thank you for replying. I hope I will better tomorrow.
