I’m really struggling with my appetite lately. I can’t eat anything in the morning even though I feel hungry. I try to eat my calories in the evening but I’m still losing weight. I’ve added protein shakes but they’re not making up for the calories I’m missing.
That's really tough - it's awful to have no appetite as a WD symptom, and I know how hard it can be to push through and force yourself to eat. I think the best thing you can do in this situation is to a) eat tiny amounts of easy-to-eat and digest foods as frequently as possible throughout the day, e.g., apple grated in yogurt, shakes etc., and let go of aiming for three big meals a day (if you usually do), and b) try not to worry about it too much. Unless you were quite underweight to begin with, it's not going to do you much harm, and it will ease off as your WD does. Could it be a sign that you maybe need to do a longer hold and/or review your taper strategy and consider slowing it down? You might not have as much energy if you don't eat as much, but we can drop quite a lot of weight without serious consequences. I did an awful 6-month long treatment for Hep C many years ago and had zero appetite and dropped a lot of weight. Didn't kill me, and it came back once the treatment stopped.
