Withdrawal symptoms for all?

September 12, 2026··
Hi, I want to come off Citalopram after 5 months. Does EVERYONE have withdrawal symptoms or are there some fortunate people who don’t experience withdrawal symptoms? Thanks

Hi @Pablo! It's known that about 56% of people will have some sort of withdrawal symptoms. Some people don't experience them at all. There was a study done if you'd like to read it: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0306460318308347

Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 17.92 mg
Trazodone - 50 mg
Levothyroxine - 25 mcg

You're welcome! Because it's not known who will experience withdrawal symptoms, that's why a general principle of doing a 10% Hyperbolic taper is recommended for everyone. Some find that they're able to go faster, and others find they have to slow things down. It's a very individualized process.
