5 weeks ago I was prescribed 7.5 mg of mirtazapine which I took for two weeks. Then the dosage was increased to 11.25 mg for one week but the side effects were intolerable... shakiness, weak legs, constant hunger, sudden drops of energy and feeling faint needing to eat immediately. I was tapered back to 7.5mg for one week and now on 3.75mg for the past week. I'm still experiencing the same awful side effects/withdrawals. My doctor wants me to stop completely at 3.75mg without tapering any more since i haven't been taking it for very long. Frankly, I'm terrified of doing that. The withdrawals are bad enough at 3.75mg. I've been cutting the 7.5 in half. Can i cut the 3.75mg for the next taper?
Hey Trilby,
Every quack I've heard about (including my own) doesn't know what they're doing and made things worse.
But i never thought I'd say this, but I think your Dr has a point and I'm in mind to agree.
1. You haven't been on it that long so should be able to rapid taper.
2. Going from 7.5 to 11.25 should not have made you worse,
3. The few weeks you've been on haven't been at a high dose.
4. The effects you're feeling may not be withdrawal but an adverse reaction to the drug.
I would come off immediately.
Why are you terrified of stopping? I would be running through the streets, high fiveing strangers, roaring with joy because you've won a lottery ticket you lucky bastard.
I do wish I was in your position.
Yep, you'll feel shit for a very short while, while it clears your system, then you can decide how to resolve the issues that brought you into Mirtz in the first place.
Mirtazapine — 0.2mg — 1 year — actively tapering
