Tapering from Effexor 37.mg to Prozac 20mg.

Hi everyone, I'm just reaching out as im starting yet another medication To do so, i'm tapering off Effexor on Prozac.I was wondering if anyone out there had a similar experience.

Hi @Dane, is it your goal to live a life free of psychiatric drugs? Are you trying to 'bridge' onto Prozac so you can get off the Effexor with plans to then taper off the Prozac? I understand why you want off the Effexor due to the vision side effects. My experience has been that it's best to do a slow taper of one drug instead of adding another drug into the mix. A Prozac bridge can work, but it can also make things worse too. Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 16.64 mg
Trazodone - 50 mg
Synthroid - 25 mcg

Im trying to go from Effexor to Prozac.35.7 mg of effexor to 20mg of prozac.My psychiatrist told me that because the dose is low and its a cross taper side effects woukd be okay.Please help

Did you have a chance to read the article? Prozac takes anywhere from 4-8 weeks to reach full therapeutic effect. Effexor has a very short half-life, so it will be out of your system quickly. That could present issues. I can't say for sure, but it's just something to keep in mind and be aware of. The greatest changes in receptor occupancy happen at extremely low doses - much, much lower than the "lowest" available dose of these drugs. Hi Catina, I have been on Effexor 37.5mg for a short time only.I have been told that this approach will work.I have to go with that.
