Taper evening dose or morning dose?

September 17, 2026··
Hi, I’m on 10mg of Valium. 3 weeks ago I started my first taper removing 1/4 tab from my evening dose. I will start my next taper tomorrow. Help! Should I remove another 1/4 from my evening tab which would leave me with a 1/2 of 5mg tab OR should I start a 1/4 off the morning dose? Thanks so much!!!

Usually even cuts are the best to keep the dose of the drug consistent throughout the day. Valium has a really long half life so it should be ok either way. But just for sake of practice as even and consistent is best. You could consider moving into one single daily dose with your prescriber.

Based, thanks so much. I’m new to the community. I’ve learned so much, but it can be scary. I know slow and steady is best. It’s all so confusing. I know as I get smaller it’ll get rough, but I’m determined. I figured I would cut another 1/4 from evening dose. Seems keeping the day dose normal would be better?! I just want to make sure I do the right thing.

I will try to find you a clinician in your area well versed in withdrawal. For now do whatever you think is best.
