Hi. I am aiming to taper off Risperidal. I was on 4mg, then that got reduced by my psychiatrist to 3mg, in January, 2024. That was the last time I had a medication review. I have been trying to get another review for almost a year now, and I'm supposed to have one on Tuesday morning. I'm going to ask if they'll reduce my medication to 2.5mg. Does this seem sensible?

@Ay Ra yes its sensible. Its 16%, the recommended is 10% but its close enough. If you want to be safer try cutting less but see how you feel.

Hi Ay Ra! Do you remember how you felt in January 2024 when you reduced to 3mg? If you managed that without too many symptoms, hopefully reducing to 2.5mg will go well. The articles/blog-posts here about talking to your prescriber might come in handy before Tuesday. All the best!

Hey guys. Thought it would be sensible and helpful to keep you updated. I had my appointment with an NHS psychiatrist on Tuesday and it went well. I only saw him for about five minutes and he agreed to lower my dose of Risperidone from 3mg to 2.5mg, and have another appointment with him in six months' time to possibly reduce down to 2mg. Happy days! I've got enough 3mg tablets on me to probably last another two or three weeks, so I'm going to reduce to 2.5mg about a week or few days before I see my therapist next, which is on the 22nd of September. I'm feeling optimistic! :)

That's great news! I think you're being very sensible. A 6 month hold will give your body and brain plenty of time to adjust to having less risperidone. And you'll have your therapist for support in case any symptoms come up. Best of luck!
