How does everyone keep engaged with life without over doing it? When do you know if you're ready to take more of an active part? I went to the theatre 2 weeks ago and although I enjoyed it, I was thrown off in terms of sleep and had a terrible night. I'm meant to be going to some national rugby matches next month but i'm not sure if its wise? It will involve lots of walking, standing, folk shouting and loud music. My heart says go and enjoy and allow your nervous system to see there's no danger but my head is saying hmm, maybe its too much? I don't want to make any symptoms worse but am i giving my nervous system the wrong message by being too protective?

I understand Pamela. Kind of dealing with the same issue. Seems I never know when I'll have a terrible night and it seems anything can cause it. Definitely a night out doing something stimulating is just asking for it. So I'm embracing the bland life for now, being thankful to just keep on keeping on. It's my hope my nerves and sleep won't be so fragile once Im finished tapering off my psychiatric meds.
And although I refuse to accept fear, it seems sometimes the symptoms of anxiety, panic, and intrusive thoughts poke into my mind.
It seems you're off all meds for 11+ weeks now? Congrats! But maybe ease into activities?
eg start with an afternoon matinee comedy 1 week, then next week an early evening action flick, then try an evening suspense the next?

Yeah, its really hard balance to reach. My life on the whole is very bland and still on a phased return to work. I'm very protective of my evenings especially and try to keep them low key. I've even swapped pick up/drop off for my teenagers so I can do the early runs.
I was only on meds for 11.5 weeks but even in that short time they've left a lingering impact.
My gut and head is telling me to watch the matches at home and continue to do gentle supportive activities rather than plunging into a full on match day. My heart is saying go for it. I do also feel pressure from others to take part so there's the added upset of letting everyone down.

Don't let fear make your decisions, but do use caution. Kind of a flip flop answer for easing into it ๐
