I Found A Tapering Coach
August 17, 2026··
I am coming here from the benzo buddies site.
I found a tapering coach. I am very scared because I am not sure if he knows what he is doing. I feel very unstable.
I was on 6 mg of Klonopin, he put me on 40 mg of Valium and 1800 of Gabapentin. I am paying a lot of money for this guy. He is on the Mad In America website, as well as the Benzodiazepine Information Coalition. He assures me that this is the proper way to deal with this and 120mg of Valium is not needed.
"Why the dose is not 120 mg of diazepam
You may have come across conversion charts online that suggest your clonazepam dose would equal 120 mg of diazepam. These charts are based on rough estimates and expert opinion — they are not meant to be taken as exact prescriptions. A dose of 120 mg of diazepam would be very dangerous, and to my knowledge, no patient is prescribed that amount daily.
Here is the important science behind this: what matters is not the total milligrams of the medication, but how much of the brain's GABA receptors the medication occupies. After about 40–60 mg of diazepam, the receptors become saturated — meaning they are essentially "full." Going above that dose does not provide meaningful additional benefit, but it does significantly increase the risk of dangerous side effects like excessive sedation and breathing problems. This is why the Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines list 60 mg as the maximum dose on their tapering tables.
So rest assured — you do not need 120 mg of diazepam. The dose I have prescribed is based on what is safe and effective for your body.”
I have a call into him. Hopefully he gets back to me today.
On And Off Psychiatric Drugs since 2005.
Currently on 100 mg of Valium, Gabapentin 1800 mg, and Mirtazapine 7.5mg for sleep.
