Hyperbolic taper

September 18, 2026··
I am begging tomorrow with a schedule provided by AI. My goal is to go from 60mg of Duluxetine daily to none at all. My primary motivation is lack of libido. I now live in Jaco, Costa Rica. My only regular doctor is at a private clinic. He refuses to be involved in my effort and told me to see a psychiatrist in San Jose. I live on a small fixed income and I can’t afford to see a psychiatrist in San Jose. I plan to remove a set number of beads from each capsule as recommended on the AI schedule. I just wanted to see if this triggers a response from anyone with experience in this area. Thanks

Hi Sergeant, I can completely understand why you want to taper because the libido problems are really affecting you. But I would encourage you to go slowly and not underestimate your overall well-being. I’ve gained more than 10 years of experience with attempts to taper Cymbalta, and I’d be happy to support you by sharing what I’ve learned. Maybe you don’t even need to get all the way down to 0 mg. It’s possible that your libido could already improve after reducing by 10, 20, or 30 mg. Unfortunately, withdrawal symptoms can become so unpleasant that sometimes you almost wish the libido problem was your biggest concern again. That’s why I’d go slowly and document your most important symptoms every day, or at least every third day. For example:
  • Anxiety
  • Energy/motivation
  • Mood/depression
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Concentration
  • Libido
Other symptoms may temporarily appear if the taper is too fast, such as irritability or sensory hypersensitivity, and these are worth monitoring as well. If you reduce by around 5% of your previous dose every 4–6 weeks, it may be relatively manageable down to around 30 mg. Below that, things often become more difficult. Your lifestyle can also play an important role—stress, diet, exercise, and so on. Be prepared for this process to take 3–5 years. Slower is the key here. How can I support you with my experience?

The bead-counting method can work very well. Just make sure you are careful and precise when counting the beads. The capsule shell should remain clean and dry, and the beads should also be kept clean and, most importantly, dry. The beads must not be damaged, crushed, or squeezed, as this could damage their enteric coating and affect how the medication works.

I will be 74 next month. I’m just happy that you think I have 3-5 years left! I’m already dealing with stage 4 chronic kidney disease, pancreatic insufficiency and AFIB. I remain active, however, and I’m not ready to hang up my spurs when it comes to the one thing I most enjoy in life! I’m not sure my goal here is achievable or wise, but I feel I have to go for it! Thanks for your support.

Good morning ladies gentleman.Thank you for your assignments.I am on 68.75 mg sertraline.i wonder why when I do an automated taper calculation plan online in your site by 1% reduction of occupancy you give me a very tiny reduction of the dose from 68.75 to only 68.15 whereas in my calculation my starting dose of 68.75 mg corresponds by interpolation to approximately 82.61% SERT occupancy. Therefore: Start: 82.61% After 28 days: 81.61% After another 28 days: 80.61% etc. Using the Maudsley curve, 81.61% corresponds to about 60.87 mg. So an exact 1-percentage-point SERT reduction necessarily means approximately: 68.75 → 60.87 mg for the first step. your online taper said that I need more than two decades to reach zero while my own calculation it took only 6 years despite i measure the same interval of four weeks in the two methods. Then why this huge difference exists ? Thank you
