Hi, I'm Tommi

May 8, 2026··
Hello, I’m Tommi, a wife, mother and grandmother. I have been on an antidepressant for 28 years. I’ve tried going off of it but have been unsuccessful. I am now slowly tapering after 2 separate horrible experiences with tapers. I’m just looking to talk to others who are tapering to help make this journey easier.

Paxil - (1998-2023), switched from Paxil to Mirtazapine 30mg same day. Started Escitalopram 2023 while on Mirtazapine. Tapered Mirtazapine 15mg to 0 in 2 months. Started taper from Escitalopram Mar/2026. Tapering 2.5% per month doing weekly reductions.

Hi @Tommi, it's nice to have you here! Welcome.... ❤️ I too have been on antidepressants for a very long time. Other members have too, so you're in good company. Which drug are you tapering? I'm tapering Effexor, and then after that I'll be tapering Trazodone. Can you fill out a Signature for yourself with a brief drug history? Thanks! Click on this link and then scroll down to Add Drug History. This will then appear at the bottom of all your posts. https://taper.community/settings Are you working with a doctor that understands Hyperbolic tapering and is supportive? Looking forward to having you here! Catina 💜

Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 17.92 mg
Trazodone - 50 mg
Levothyroxine - 25 mcg

Hello, I’ve been talking to my family doctor about my taper. He doesn’t believe that it’s necessary to taper so slowly but doesn’t have a problem with it. I’ve been tapering by myself and using a journal to document my dosage.

Well, we know that he is mistaken. However, the fact that he's willing to support you is good.

I hope things continue to go smoothly for you. Keep listening to your body and slow things down if your symptoms become unmanageable. Are you trying to take care of yourself when it comes to your diet and lifestyle? That can have such a bearing on how fast we heal. Looking forward to more of your updates! Keep up the great work.

Hi Catina, thanks for your kind words. It’s nice having someone to talk to about tapering who is going through the same thing. I do try to eat healthy and stay active. My family and friends make my life so enjoyable. I just hate when my nervous system acts up due to stress or bad weather because intrusive thoughts appear and make my nervous system act up even more.

I understand. Your nervous system is extra sensitive right now and can be affected by things that you normally wouldn't. I'm sorry about the intrusive thoughts you're having. Here is some helpful information about it. I hope it helps! https://taper.community/thread/ffc48870-b1df-444f-a6a6-0e84d06d86a8
