Hi, I'm Tabithamatters

September 8, 2026··
Hi, I wish I would have found this community and resources last year before I trusted I was truly heard for the first time knowing in my gut what would happen. Last year I was desperate to change and I was promised that a new medication was the answer along with hormones shortly after. I had taken 50 mgs of seroquel for over 20 years and was told it’s such a small dose it’s not working then started a 4 week taper and the new medication. A brand new medication not even a generic yet. I was concerned but then I would have done anything to end my depression and function again. 7 months I barely made it, nausea so didn’t eat,

Caplyta 42 mg- 1 yr — prescribed taper 50% actively at 21 mg | Zoloft 100 mg 20 yrs— supporting others | Seroquel 50mg -20 yrs — 4 wk taper unsuccessful reinstated after 7 months 0mg | Klonopin .50— 20yrs —supporting others

Hi Tabithamatters, Welcome. I'm really glad you found this space and that you trusted your gut to share your story here. It takes a lot to say you were desperate and that you were promised something that didn't hold up. Feeling unheard after 20 years on a medication, only to be told a dose "isn't working" is more common than anyone here would like. Thank you for being here and for being honest about where you are. I hope you find the understanding and support here that you were looking for last year.

I was told it was a new mood stabilizer and at that time I was questioning my own thoughts as I have taken pride in being aware always and being able to advocate for myself. This was before I learned I had OCD and was misdiagnosed at 18 when I first had a panic attack and overstimulated reminded my mother of her mother and brother and a misdiagnosis that became my identity until last week. I lasted until April then had to get back on the seroquel due to protracted withdrawls and symptoms I never had before. So taking the 50 mg of Seroquel and 42 mg with no warnings until last week I was finally heard and taking them together is dangerous and I’m experiencing those warnings that are high risk. She dropped me down to 21mg today is day 6 and I'm not tolerating Orin the health ended to even feel comfortable but I have to. I found this group and I had no idea about compounding pharmacies, does anyone know a taper schedule that I can present to my doctor to write a compounding pharmacy to taper off caplyta safer and slower to be successful and get my life back

That was a 50% reduction, so it's no surprise you're having issues with that. What symptoms are you dealing with? If your symptoms are unbearable, you could try updosing a bit to see if they resolve. Otherwise, it might be good if you don't make any more changes until things stabilize. How long have you been on the Caplyta? Normally, we recommend a Hyperbolic taper of no more than 10% each month from the previous month's dose. The doses will therefore get smaller and smaller as time goes on. You can use the Taper Plan feature on the left sidebar to help you come up with a plan that you can share with your providers.

I begged my doctor for a slower longer titration and she said you go up one way and down one way. A year and it feels like the similar symptoms as when I tapered seroquel for one month. Stomach pain, electric shock all over, dizzy, nausea, faint/weak bc I have developed POTs from low potassium for years and sugar problems from taking the two together. I’m back in survival and OCD is flaring, hormones etc misfiring, restlessness like bugsy today. Emotional distress but I have perimenopause as well and I did take progesterone for almost a year which made everything insane. It’s been over a month and just 3 days without the progesterone my head was quiet and I have been so much better emotionally and more peaceful. I didn’t know neurodivergent women are intolerant to progesterone so I wanted to share. My doctor heard me because I told her about my health and recent symptoms

Yes, taking hormones can have strong effects. I'm glad you feel a little better now. Perimenopause can be a very challenging time!
