Hi, I'm Sara

August 29, 2026ยทยท
I have tried to reduce Citalopram many times,,because of apathy and indifference and no motivation to do my tasks.as a side-effect from the Citalopram, only hoping to reduce to 10mg from 20mg. only on day 4 and finding it quite difficult as all systems are affected. Have reduced from 20mg to 15mg,which is 25%, which is quite high. My GP advocated going to 50% reduction, which I thought was alarmingly high the NHS does not do hyperbolic tapering, A psychiatrist holistic in Usa, advocated using Sero plus, but I was wary of using 5HTP,as it could result in serotonin syndrome. Just wondering if anyone has some experience or advise to offer. up to now i have always gone back on the full dose.

Hi Sara, welcome! Are you aware of the National Deprescribing Clinic in the UK? They have doctors there that understand and implement Hyperbolic tapering. https://www.nelft.nhs.uk/national-psychiatric-drug-deprescribing-clinic-pdc/ Also, you can use the Find a Clinician feature on the left sidebar to search for a deprescribing provider near you. Yes, the taper your GP advises is much too rapid. And I agree that using something like 5-HTP to help with withdrawal is not something that is wise to do. Happy to have you here and hope that we can assist you. Catina ๐Ÿ’œ
