Hi, I'm Raphael Rod Birney

April 1, 2026··
Hi I'm a psychiatrist focusing mainly on psychotherapy and contemplative practice. I've helped people I've worked with in long-term psychotherapy taper medication's. I'm very excited about this resource and thought it would be a good place for me to learn more.

Welcome to Taper Community Raphael! It's very commendable that as a physician you are taking the time to learn about how to safely taper psychiatric drugs. The Learn section contains valuable information about Hyperbolic tapering, and why it's so important for the tapering process. Many people are given tapering protocols that are much too rapid for their body and brain to handle, thus making it difficult to discontinue their drug. And then, of course, many times withdrawal symptoms are mistaken for "relapse" when in reality it's a very normal reaction. Please let us know how we can best help you. We look forward to having you here where we can all learn from each other! Thanks again for being here. Kind Regards, Catina ❤️

Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 17.92 mg
Trazodone - 50 mg
Levothyroxine - 25 mcg

“Your brain and body know how to heal. Trust the process and keep going.”

Please Note: I am not a healthcare professional. Any advice given is based on personal experience and that of others in the lay withdrawal community.

Hello and a warm welcome, it is very encouraging to see you being interested in learning more about this topic. It sure is an art to taper safely and i‘m very glad this finally gets more traction. Maybe you also have experiences to share? The tapering stories can be vastly individual and setbacks are not uncommon as i had to experience myself. Have a good one!
