Hi, I'm Liz B

August 5, 2026··
I was put on venlafaxine after a significant work stress ?10 years ago. It did help at the time. I have tried to cease this at least 4 times. The last time I transitioned to fluoxetine and stopped over about a 6 week period. I was fine initially and then was on the verge of tears all the time. I felt terrible. I couldn’t take it any longer and commenced citalopram 18/12 ago with the goal of eventually getting off this. I have been following the release slow taper over the past few months and easily dropped from 10 to 5 then did slow taper 4.8,4.6,4.4 etc to 3.2 where I have stalled mainly due to tinnitus. Mentally I’m ok. I am now holding on 3.2 and hoping my tinnitus will decrease. I’m hoping to gain support and hope as I try to release myself from this medication and get my mind back.

Hi @Liz B....welcome! Many of us learn the hard way when we taper too quickly. I'm glad that you're doing well mentally. Since the tinnitus has become an issue, you're doing the smart thing with holding until things improve a bit. Congrats for getting so far in your taper though, that's quite a feat! Here is some information about tinnitus that I hope you'll find helpful: https://taper.community/thread/c378f707-808b-4db9-881e-e0108e5d2c5a https://taper.community/resources/blog/tinnitus-from-medication-withdrawal We look forward to hearing your future updates and hope that things settle for you soon!
