Hi @Learning to Zzzz, welcome to Taper Community!
I'm sorry to hear about your challenges in life, but I'm glad that you've had some therapy to help you work through some of your issues. Not being able to sleep is one of the hardest things to deal with in life! And all doctors are trained to do is increase the dose of drugs, which can cause side effects as you have discovered (especially after long-term use). Kudos for doing your own research!
We recommend Hyperbolic tapering here at Taper Community - monthly reductions of no more than 10% of the previous month's dose. The reductions will therefore get smaller and smaller as time goes on. The greatest changes in receptor occupancy happen at very low doses, so tapering this way is safer and easier on the brain.
If you go to the Symptoms and Self-Care section of the forum and click on the Guides tab, you'll find lots of helpful information and tips about insomnia and sleep.
Don't expect doctors to understand anything about how to safely these drugs or deal with anything related to coming off them. Most have no clue.
We look forward to supporting you on your tapering and healing journey. Let us know if you have any specific questions and we'll be happy to help! 💜
