Hi, I'm Jessica A

May 5, 2026··
Hi. I’m Jessica. Im taking Fluvoxamine 100mg. I’ve been in it for 4 years. I’m stuck in the middle of a severe adverse reaction and have not been able to get in to see my doctor (office is over-booked). I have tried everything. I’ve been to 2 different ERs and I don’t know what to do. I finally cut my pill down tonight to what I thought would be about 90% but I am so scared and the side effects are AWFUL and terrifying. If you know anything that can help me please help.

Hi Jessica....welcome! Just some quick questions for you: How long has this reaction been going on? Have you ever had something like this happen before? Have you added any new supplements or other drugs lately that could be causing this? What symptoms are you experiencing? Hang in there. We'll help you the best we can! Hugs, Catina 💜

Thank you. When think about it the reaction has showed signs that I wasn’t aware of for a long time, but it really sped up last friday when I took an antibiotic for what I thought was a mouth infection. I believe it was actually related to this reaction as well. I had swollen painful glands under my tongue. I’m now tapering but my doctor is not aware of the need for hyperbolic tapering and I have reduced to 75 mg but I believe it may have been too fast. I don’t know, because symptoms started before I began tapering. I have the sensation that I cannot be still and I cannot sleep at all. As an aside, I got in to my doc and she is testing me for sjorgen’s believing this could be related.

Antibiotics can cause issues for some people during tapering and withdrawal. They can affect the CNS....some more than others. Which antibiotic was it?

It's good to rule things out, but withdrawal symptoms can also mimic other disorders.

Clindamycin. Again, though, I already had starting experiencing symptoms (like swollen glands under tongue). I only took 4 doses of it because it made me feel horrible.

Okay, thanks for letting me know. What people really need to be cautious of are fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as Cipro or Levaquin. Even for people not going through withdrawal they can cause severe side effects. Have you tried sucking on some lemon candy or something sour that could help produce saliva? Also, staying away from anything dehydrating like coffee might help.

Yes, I am trying all the things. My taste is distorted too, so it’a hard to find things that consistently work. Right now xylitol gum is helpful

You're going to be okay Jessica. This can happen to people but is only temporary. Your body is just having a reaction, but you're safe and it can't harm you. And we're right here with you, so you're not alone.

Do you think they'd be open to seeing some information about it? If not, Based Psychiatrist said he'd try to help you find another clinician. You could consider not making any more changes in your dose until things settle down a bit....and they will, so hang in there.

Well that might actually help my doctor. She is looking into the sjorgen’s but she referred me to the behavioral health for the medicine anyway.
