Hi, I'm Jan

September 20, 2026··
Hi, I’m Jan. After developing clinical anxiety due to a scary and bumpy ride with sudden onset of arrhythmias and spikes in Blood pressure, I finallly agreed to start Sertraline after my first heart ablation. The end of April 2025 I started taking Sertraline. It wasn’t until my doctor bumped my dosage up to 100mg the end of July that my anxiety was totally gone in two weeks. From a person who was afraid of everything we were flying to off to Hawaii for a wedding. I’ve felt the great the 13 months I’ve been on Sertraline, but I’ve gained 30 pounds. So, I’ve begun the titrating process. I’ve gone from 100mg to 50mg in five weeks. My doctor says I need to be at 50mg for at least six weeks. I would naturally like to be totally off of it in 1 1/2 months if I don’t get any withdrawal symptoms. Has anyone successfully titrated this quickly? My dream schedule would be stay at 50mg for six weeks, then 25 mg for six weeks, then zero. Thanks for listening. I’m looking forward to hearing about your journeys.

Hi, welcome! For me personally I didn't have issues with dropping from 75 to 50 to 25. Unfortunately the 25 to 0 drop didn't work out for me and I had to go slow. It is difficult to say how you will tolerate the reductions. You might consider adding additional steps, like 12.5 mg (half of 25 mg).

Hi @Jan, welcome! Not everyone gets severe withdrawal symptoms. The problem is we don't know who will, so that's why a general recommendation of a 10% Hyperbolic monthly taper is made. Also, sometimes people do a rapid taper and feel fine just to be hit months later with severe withdrawal symptoms. I'm not saying this to scare you, but to inform you. Everyone is so different with what their own body can handle. The greatest changes in serotonin receptors happen at very small doses, so a suggestion would be (as the other member said) to taper a bit more slowly the closer you get to zero. This is not medical advice, but a suggestion would be to gauge things more by how you feel than a strict timeline. I hope this helps a little! Catina 🌸
