Hi everyone,
I started taking Zoloft (50mg) 10 years ago, trusting the guy in the white coat who offered an easy fix for what was, in hindsight, "just" situational depression.
Recently, a new doctor advised tapering by alternating and skipping days. At first, it was a breeze. When the anxiety spiked, I blamed life stress and almost reinstated the 50 mg, thinking my natural baseline was just "depressed."
Then the symptoms became unbearable and completely unlike my original issues: multiple daily panic attacks, dizziness, memory loss, and flu-like symptoms. A little research revealed the truth: that "easy fix" was actually a one-way ticket to withdrawal hell.
I am currently holding at 22.5 mg. My last attempted 10% cut—using a micro-scale for the capsule powder, since liquid isn't available in France—was way too massive for my system. I woke up with severe panic attacks, so I'm pausing to stabilize.
My next cut will probably be 5%, assuming my scale stops jumping every time I breathe on it. Right now, keeping busy and telling my brain "Stop telling me stories" are what help most.
Grateful for any tips, solidarity, or grasping at straws. This is honestly the hardest thing I've ever gone through in my life, and I so desperately need a virtual hug once in a while. I'm not greedy, though—I promise to give them right back to anyone else here who needs one.
Best,
Gigi
