Hi, I'm Eliana

July 13, 2026··
Right now I am trying to make a plan to taper 600 mg of Lithium Carbonate after 10 years on it. I do not know if it would be easier to make a liquid compounded form of this medication and if I should at what dose. Right now I am considering going from 600 mg to 450 mg to 300 mg to 150 mg to 0 mg with each stage lasting five months. But im not sure if im going to fast per dose reduction. I really need help!!

Hi @Eliana - Welcome! Nice to have you with us. I personally don't have experience with tapering Lithium, but I here is some information that should help you: https://taper.community/drugs/lithium https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/forums/topic/2976-tips-for-tapering-off-lithium/ If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to reach out. I know there is at least one other member tapering Lithium. Catina 💜

The amount you’ll measure depends entirely on the concentration of the liquid, so you’ll need to know what’s printed on the bottle (for example, 300 mg per 5 mL or another strength). Once you know the concentration, you can calculate the volume needed for any dose, such as 75 mg. If you let us know the exact concentration on the bottle, we’d be happy to help you work out the math. We’d also recommend using a calibrated oral syringe for accurate measurement, especially when making small dose adjustments.
