Hi everyone, I am new here. Currently having a hard time during last part of Mirtazapine taper. Long story short. Was prescribed Clonazepam a benzodiazepine) and Mirtazapine for long covid which I’ve had twice. Tapered off those in about 3 months no issues (I took them for 1 year inclusive of tapers). Got long covid again and got back on them. I tried to taper again but no can do this time; I had to taper way slower. I finished Clonazepam taper a year ago (2 years total) and am super low in Mirtazapine taper. Just having a really rough time. I think this is a compounded Mirtazapine taper given the Clonazepam taper a year ago. Main symptoms are a persistent impairment of higher order thinking, few hours of fragmented and superficial sleep, waves of anxiety, neuropathy-like pain, anhedonia, and super low energy levels.

Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 17.28 mg
Trazodone - 50 mg
Synthroid - 25 mcg

I recall on Dr Horowitz YouTube video that you may be more sensatised the more times you stop and start ADs which gives you tougher symptoms. I think this happened to me because I don't recall having much of an issue stopping until this occasion and ive had to take it far slower and have really bad symptoms if I don't. What dose you on now? How low is super low?

Hi @Catina, I’m sorry for the delay in reply. I apparently missed the email notifications. My reductions had been 10% every two weeks. When I wrote my post I was already super low on the Mirtazapine taper. Now, I’ve finished it about 2 weeks ago. The symptoms are the worst yet. My cognitive impairment and mental lethargy are at an all-time high. Not feeling optimistic tbh. Thanks.

Hello @Cosmic1973. My worst initial symptoms during long COVID were anxiety and insomnia (a highly sesnitirized nervous system). I was given Clonazepam for anxiety and Mirtazapine for insomnia. Both worked great but boy, I wish I had known what I know now. I would have at least attempted to white-knuckled it instead of taking those two things.

Hi Cirrus, I'm surprised you were prescribed two drugs when Mirtz does both rather bloody powerfuly IMO. I'm glad you're off but sorry to hear you're suffering. Did you come off at 0.25?

@Cosmic1973 I agree. Those are two very potent drugs. But yeah, like I said, I wish knew then what I know now. At the time I was prescribed those I was unaware of that and had a more naive and trusting perspective regarding doctors. My jump off was super low at 0.018 mg using a water taper.

Wow, that is super low. How long did you hold at 0.018 before stopping? Were you feeling good beforehand? Also, do you prepare your own solution? I assume you crush 7.5mg into 750ml of water to get 0.01mg for each ml of a syringe. I was planning stopping at 0.025mg, but having second thoughts now.
