Hi. I’m seriously considering tapering myself as it seems it’s pretty impossible to see a psychiatrist here. I was hoping to get a private psychiatrist but don’t know where to look for one. I currently take risperidone and have been on this for almost seven years. I’ve done quite a lot of therapy over the past two years and both my therapists feel I’m ready to taper. I would like quite a lot of support with this.

Who is currently writing your prescription for Risperdal? If you can't find an adequate psychiatrist and need to discuss the subject with your current provider, we have information that will help you do that. Hi again. It's great you're feeling stable enough to consider tapering, and that your therapists are supportive. There is so much information on this website. And I think risperidone solution is available in the UK for when you get below 0.25mg, which makes it much easier. I took 2mg for a few years and I've been tapering for two years, including a 16 month pause at 0.5mg because I got nervous. I'm at 0.3mg now and I have about 12 months to go. Haven't seen a psychiatrist in all that time. I would absolutely not recommend this strategy but it is possible if your GP is on board. Welcome to Taper Community! 🙂
