Hi, I'm Aisha

August 19, 2026ยทยท
Hi! I'm Aisha. I've came off lurasidone and quetiapine and I'm coming off the last of the psychiatric medication I'm on: lamotrigine. I'm from Argentina and here there's no trained physician on tapering and people have a really weird relation with meds in general. I would say people medicate their self freely and without any conciousness. Doctors prescribe meds for almost any kind of pain without even questionning if it's necessary and if the side-effects are complicated. There's a lot of people addicted to psychotropics here and they are sell illegaly or you can get them also by finding an ordennance through a friend or friend's friend doctor. I thought i really needed medication beacause I've been diagnosed BD and BPD 3 years ago, but now I'm realising that the whole psychiatric and farmachological industry seems to be a scam that actually ruins our health, self-steem, economy and relationships. I'm starting searching info by my own and what i've found seems outrageous to me, so perverse... Anyways, my psychiatrist and therapeute follow my tapering but they don't know ANYTHING about it and it's so frustrating. My psychiatrist tries to convince me that I'll have horrible relapses and permanent cognitive disorders if i don't take medication at all, but deep down I know i'll be better off without them. The side-effects are unbearable now and I genuinely know that I'm ok (i've stable for 2 years now, without any episodes or whatsoever). Actually, I came off lurasidone 120 in 1 month and half and quetiapine 100 in one month. I didn't have acute withdraw symptoms but I wasn't aware there might be some, because my psychiatrist told me there were none, only the risk of relapse. Now that I know they are real and they can last up to 18 months or so, I'm realizing I do have them (in a soft way). Anyways, actually really bad things could have happened to me tapering off at that rate!! I'm so furious with this system. So now that i'm more informed, I want to take it easy with lamictal because it's the only one left and the one I taked longer. I hope to find support here and be able to support others, in orther to raise awareness about this fucked up system. I need to know more about this. (sorry, my english may not be perfect. I'm bilingual in french - spanish by the way).

Aisha, wishing you the best of luck, and am encouraged by your thought process. I agree that the system is broken, or maybe just intentionally perverse... I never knew 8 years ago (when I was first prescribed my SSRI) how dangerous and physiologically-altering these meds were/are. I've been in a cycle of self-deprescribing for 5 years...the journey is brutal. I've been listening to Dr Ardis podcasts recently, have you ever read or listened to any of his resources? His podcast from July 08 2026 was SUPER informative on side effects and NATURAL support for those of us wanting to be off these dangerous meds.... Good luck on your journey.
