Hi, I'm 30yrsofProz

July 6, 2026··
I am expecting to have testing for Dysautonomia in a few days and the doc/testing site recommends discontinuing Fluoxetine 7 days prior. I've been on 20 mg for 30 yrs and had either noticeable withdrawal symptoms or recurrence of anxiety when I've tried to taper off in the past. I have now gone 5 days without and would like to explore tapering off after the testing occurs in 3 days. I'm interested in suggestions for tapering schedules.

Prozac — 20 mg — 30 yrs — actively tapering | Wellbutrin — 100 mg SR — 30 yrs — holding | without clinician

Welcome to the Taper Community! Don't quit cold turkey. Fluoxetine has a long half-life, so withdrawal symptoms might start appearing after some time. Learn about hyperbolic tapering in the resources -> blogs section.

- Aripiprazole / Abilify:
17-May-2026 (15mg -> 10mg)
11-July-2026 (10mg-> 7.5mg
17-Aug-2026 (7.5mg -> 5mg)
9 months - actively tapering
- Procyclidine 5mg - 9 months - actively tapering
- Propranolol - 20mg - 1 year - holding
- Xanax - 0.25mg - 7 months - holding

Hi @30yrsofProz, glad to have you here. Prozac has a very long half-life so can be a bit more forgiving than other drugs, but that is because it takes longer to leave your system. If your doctor is thinking that it's going to be out of your system in 7 days before the test they are mistaken. It can take 4-6 weeks for the drug to completely leave your system. After your test, you should reinstate and then do a Hyperbolic taper. You've been on it for a very long time, so your brain is going to need lots of time to adjust. In the Resources section you can read about Hyperbolic tapering. Also, with Prozac, any withdrawal symptoms can show up later since it can take longer for the drug to leave your system. Normally, you don't want to taper more than 10% each month from the previous month's dose. The reductions will get smaller and smaller the closer you get to the end. 10% is the maximum. Some people need to reduce by less. Everyone is different, so you'll want to listen to your body and find a pace that allows you to still be able to function in your daily life. I hope this information helps you! Please let the community know if you have any further questions or concerns. Catina ❤️

Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 17.92 mg
Trazodone - 50 mg
Levothyroxine - 25 mcg

Hey! Check out the Taper Planner in the side bar. You can create a schedule and reduce by the same % each cut or change it. 10% is a good starting point , try it out and see how it goes. Keep us filled in with check ins :)
