3rd Celexa Update - Feeling Good

August 8, 2026··
taper update
Trying to keep busy as the tinnitus is more noticeable when I’m sitting around doing nothing. It’s very frustrating as my mental health otherwise is ok. I hate this medication

That's good. Here are some tips from someone on another forum who dealt with it. I hope it helps: Living with tinnitus can be tough. Here’s what helped me the most: Pink noise and brown noise, similar to white noise, were lifesavers. I also used certain nature sounds. I had these going at a low level, off and on throughout the day, even when I went to bed. Tinnitus gets louder in silence because the brain expects outside noise. Since tinnitus is internal, the brain senses “quiet” and turns up the internal volume, making it even stronger. So, any kind of soothing, steady sound that’s a level slightly lower than the noise in your head will signal the brain to stop amplifying it so much. Pink and brown noise, in particular, can help calm an activated CNS too. The added noise can also give you something else to focus on, rather than the tinnitus. The app I used was ReSound Relief. I think it might now be called ReSound Tinnitus Relief. I also used some YouTube audio tracks; there are many out there. I used a lot of pink noise, brown noise, and nature sounds with steady sounds like rain and waterfalls. Steer clear of ones like birds, animals, and crashing waves — nothing with chirps. Make sure these are at a sound level slightly lower than the noise in your head. Too loud, and it can rev things up. Headphones work great, but if you don’t have any, that’s okay too. Running a fan nearby while you do this helps. Avoid total silence. It can take about 20-30 minutes before you suddenly notice it’s helping. It won’t get rid of all the tinnitus, but it should help calm your CNS and reduce the loudness. You may find one sound starts becoming irritating after a while — that’s normal. Many people switch between sounds throughout the day. There are also sound machines you can buy with many of these options.
