Editorial policy

TaperCommunity publishes two kinds of content: reference guides and articles written by the editorial team, and discussions written by members. This page explains how the first kind is produced, sourced, updated and corrected, and what none of it is.

What we publish and why

Most people who come here are trying to stop or reduce a psychiatric medication and have found little practical guidance on how. Our guides and articles exist to explain what the deprescribing literature says about withdrawal, timelines and gradual (proportional) reduction, in plain language, so that the conversation with a prescriber starts from an informed place.

Sources

Guides are built on the primary literature and on published prescribing guidance: the Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines, NICE guideline NG222, FDA and MHRA product labels, and peer-reviewed studies indexed in PubMed. Each drug guide lists its sources. Articles cite government, academic, NHS and journal sources inline; commercial and social-media pages are not used as evidence.

Authorship

Where an article names an author, that person wrote it; otherwise it was written by the TaperCommunity editorial team. Articles are not reviewed by a clinician before publication. They are educational summaries of the sources they cite, not clinical opinion, and every drug guide links the guidance and studies it draws on so readers and their prescribers can check the original.

Updates and corrections

Every article shows its published and last-updated dates. We revise content when guidance changes, when a member or clinician points out an error, or when our own review finds one. To report a problem with any page, use the contact details on the About page.

What this content is not

Nothing on TaperCommunity is medical advice, a prescription, or a plan for any individual. Example schedules illustrate the arithmetic of proportional reduction; they do not account for a reader's dose, history or health. The taper planner mirrors the reader's own entries and never recommends a dose change. Decisions about medication belong with the reader and their prescriber. In a crisis, call your local emergency number or, in the US, 988.

Member content

Forum threads, journals and comments are written by members about their own experience. They are moderated for safety and civility, not for medical accuracy, and they do not represent the views of TaperCommunity.

Independence and funding

TaperCommunity is free to use and carries no advertising. Clinicians and therapists in the directory pay for placement, which is marked on every listing; placement does not influence editorial content.
