1st Zyprexa Update - Feeling Fair

taper update

Feeling okay. Been having bouts of irritability and fatigue. I am currently on a month long pause of the olanzapine taper so I am starting to feel a bit better than I have been feeling and my system is re-stabilising. I’ve begun to notice a pattern where I make three reductions and then need to pause the taper and have a rest. It’s like the symptoms build up with each reduction. By the time I get to the third reduction in a row my system seems to become quite destabilised - to the point where I feel unable to go on. I have had to have a break of the taper at 0.8mg, 0.65mg and now 0.5mg. This has been my taper so far: 2.5mg - August 2024 1.25mg - September 2024 (held for 6 months - became so very unwell) 1.1mg - March / April 2025 1mg - May 2025 0.9mg - June 2025 0.8mg - July / August 2025 0.75mg - September 2025 0.7mg - October 2025 0.65mg - November / December 2025 0.6mg - January 2026 0.55mg - February 2026 0.5mg - march / April 2026 From here I am feeling I may need to slow the taper down again and change to 10% hyperbolic reductions. If I am able to speed up the taper and go any quicker believe me I will certainly try! I will update again soon

Thank you BP and Catina for the encouragement. I know you definitely learn how to listen to your body and understand your limits through the process of tapering off a psych med. I wasn’t really sure what to expect getting closer to end - but I thought it best to slow the taper down (hyperbolically) just in case - as I have two young children to look after. I need to be able to function for them. I can always speed the taper back up again if i find it really easy. I felt it was better to be safe than sorry. It's always better to go slowly than to try and rush through things. My heart always goes out to ones with kids and who have other responsibilities. I understand you needing to be able to take care of them and be functional.

Thank you! I've been holding for the past few months in order to resolve a situation with my thyroid med. I'm hoping to resume my taper on June 1st.

Okay so the biggest thing with quitting APs is the potential insomnia, and you wouldn't want to miss any sleeps if you are a person with big responsibilities.
