I had a bad run in with psych drugs....
4 years ago I hurt my back lifting something I shouldnt have. The pain was quite extreme, so I went to my doctor, and she gave me diazepam.
She told me it was to relax my back muscles and that it would help me sleep. "Just a short time on this and youll be good."
At first I felt good but soon I started to feel groggy, sleepy, and uncoordinated. I decided to stop taking the meds and all hell broke loose. I got anxious, sleep was messed up, and I didnt feel like myself.
Que a multi month long process of tapering and here I am.
At the time I realized my grandma was also on beznodiazepines prescribed to her by her family doctor, which really got me motivated to help others get off these horrible drugs.
Im a moderator and will be a volunteer supporter here. Looking forward to helping however I can.
Hi Dom! Nice to be here with you. Your experience is all too common with these drugs handed out as being "safe and effective." And it's sad when the elderly are put on them long-term, which can lead to all kids of problems.
I'm glad you seem to be better now. I was on a benzo for many years, and no doctor ever warned me of the dangers. Fortunately, I was able to taper off without any major issues.
Venlafaxine (tapering) - Current dose 18.88 mg Trazodone - 50 mg Levothyroxine - 25 mcg “Your brain and body know how to heal. Trust the process and keep going.”
